Tips For Starting Your Internet Home Based Business

Posted in: Basic Online Setup |

Having a home based internet business is a wonderful way to make a good living if you possesses the necessary experience, skills and pre-requites.

It allows you to have more time for your family and also to pursue your hobbies and passions that you can’t afford to have if you were stuck in a “9 to 5” job.

However, regardless of what internet business you decided to go into, there are 5 important things you should consider before plunging head over heels into it.

1) Business Plan

Writing a good business plan in my opinion is the most important step in any business endeavors.

A business plan is like a blue-print where we can set our goals, allocate resources, project future problems and opportunities and set milestomes as we move towards our ultimate goal.

Unfortunately, most people think of the business plan only when it comes to starting a totally new business or for applying for a bank loan.

Ongoing business should have a business plan for tracking progess as well.

2) Start Up Capital.

If someone tells you that you don’t need money to start an internet business then let them show you exactly how to do it.

In my opinion, any form of business, be it online or offline, needs some form of start up capital to get the ball rolling, the question is how much?

It is true some “Lucky” individuals started multi-million business with less than a 100 bucks but what are the odds of that happening to you if do not have a “Fairy God Mother” hovering over your shoulder.

Coming back to reality, it is essential that we use a simple spreadsheet showing how much money is going to be needed to start the online business.

Some essential start up costs may include purchasing your domain name, web hosting services, auto responder services etc.

By having an approximate costing in mind, we will be able to know whether our original designated startup capital is sufficient or whether any type of loans are necessary.

3) Monthly Recurring Costs.

In additional to establishing a spreadsheet that will show how much capital is required to start any online business, it is also imperative to have another spreadsheet which shows approximately how much money will be needed each month to keep the business up and running.

Ongoing recurring costs may include putting up paid advertisements, Ad words or other Pay-Per-Click campaigns to drive traffic.

Knowing this in advance will help significantly when deciding whether to start on online business.

4) Local Laws and Regulations.

As laws and regulations differ in different demographical locations, it is essential to check out any pertinent laws, statutes and regulations before you invest all your efforts and capital into your online business.

Imagine being slapped with a heavy fine or tax by the local statutory board because you are unaware of the existing rules and regulations pertaining to self employment in general.

Better be safe than sorry when it comes to government regulations.

5) Proper Home Equipment Setup.

As most online businesses are conducted at home, it is important that one has a home office set up prior to opening for business.

Important must have equipment include things like :

High speed and stable internet connection, you wouldn’t want to be unable to access to your online business when there are clients waiting to buy your products right?

Up to date computer system. Nothing beats having a multi-tasking PC that can handle all the daily chores of internet marketing all in a single console.

I also recommend getting 2 monitors so that you are able to be more efficient in multi-tasking.

Telephony equipment such as land line & fax machines. Customer support is essential to maintaining a good relationship with all your customers.

Hope these simple tips can help those who are interested in starting a home based internet business get a feel of what is required of having a online business.
