In my humble opinion, the third reason why so many internet marketers fail online is the apparent Lack of “Focus” & “Direction”.
We all know that the internet community is one the most dynamic entities today with thousands of new websites and blogs sprouting up every minute.
Every time you log on the internet, there’s something new, everywhere you surf, you will be will be “Bombarded” with new money making programs that have sprouted up like weeds on grass fields.
And if you are a beginner internet marketer, chances are you will probably be easily distracted by these external influences.
I’ll illustrate by a simple scenario that most internet newbies go through including me when I first started out.
Just imagine that you have decided to start your internet marketing venture after hearing all about the “Hype” stating that internet marketing is the easiest opportunity to become an online “Millionaire”.
Most people begin their internet marketing journey by surfing the internet looking for a “Profitable” business opportunity that can possibly bring them “Instant Riches”.
Perhaps after scourging through the internet, they decided that Opportunity A seems to more viable and should be the best choice for them.
After a bit of “Brainstorming”, they soon run out of ideas on how to continue and return to surfing the internet for more ideas and leads.
While surfing, they “Accidentally” came across another opportunity, let’s call it Opportunity B that seems more “Profitable” or takes up less time and effort with better returns.
Most have the tendency to abandon their original opportunity and choose the newer one without giving it a second thought and this cycle will most probably continue indefinitely because of the apparent lack of focus and direction.
This vicious cycle of looking for a better and easier way to succeed online is one of the most dangerous traits of all beginner internet marketers.
Some internet marketers called this the “Bright Shining Object” Syndrome.
Recall the good old camping trips where you were attracted to those bright shining fireflies glowing in the dark, attracting us towards them, but never seemingly able to catch them no matter how hard we try.
It’s analogous to internet newbies being drawn to bright shining money making programs in the vast internet sea of darkness.
In the beginning stages, the level of commitment towards their new found niche opportunity may not be very high as results are not apparent yet.
It is best in my opinion, to get “Mentorship” from established internet marketing Gurus or start a “Mastermind Group” among peers where internet newbies can share ideas and push each along in their pursuit of internet marketing success.
This will greatly reduce the risk of sidetracking where most end up doing a lot of unnecessary stuff that are not useful to their internet marketing agenda.

The second most influential reason why internet marketers fail online is actually the same reason any form of business fail, be it online or offline.
And it’s the lack of a well though out “Business Plan“.
You might feel that it’s a bit ridiculous to start a business without proper planning and research, but you will be surprised that most internet newbies jump head first into their online ventures without giving a second thought to writing a solid Business Plan or what I prefer to call a “Master Plan Of Action“.
Like the saying goes, “If You Fail To Plan, You Plan To Fail”. Nothing can be further away from the truth.
Most beginner internet marketers try to “Fabricate” one as they move along, but this is a “Killer” mistake in my book.
Let me give you a simple scenario using a “Road Map” example, let us assume that we would like to get from Point A to Point B.
Point A is currently where we are right now, in the beginning stage of our internet marketing journey.
Point B being our ultimate goal, which can anything ranging from earning a 10K income every month to making your first One Million Dollars online in 2 years time.
Remember, the goals you set must be “Definable”, “Tangible”, “Achievable” and also “Realistic” in my personal view.
This is another common mistake made by a lot of internet marketers, most don’t have a clear and definitive picture of what they ultimately want, they simply want to be super rich.
But being “Super Rich” varies differently for different people if you get my drift.
Coming back to my example, just to make this illustration simple, let us assume that we can only chose the option of getting from Point A to Point B by walking.
If you took the time organize your schedule and resources, plan your routes beforehand, you will be setting off on your journey equipped with the knowledge of the shortest possible route to your destination, possible resting spots, possible dead-ends that can be avoided as well as time consuming longer routes that will slow you down.
The underlying theory behind this example is that with proper planning, you are effectively writing a blue-print with the ability track your progress and development as you work towards your goal.
Most internet newbies don’t bother even with the most basic planning modules essential for all internet marketing.
No matter what industry you are in, these basic building blocks include the following:
- Research and selection of A Suitable Niche Market based on their areas of interest and expertise.
- The type of business monetarization model most suitable for their niche, e.g.: Blogging, Affiliate Marketing, Info-Products etc.
- The type of Sales Funneling Methodologies that will keep the sales coming in and earn them a residual online income, e.g. : Traffic Generation, Email Marketing, Leads capturing etc.
- Timeline Goal Setting like setting a 3 month, 6 month or a one year goal to track progress and development.
- Daily and Weekly Task Schedules like Monday focusing on Driving Traffic, Tuesday focusing on Search Engine Optimization, Wednesday focusing on Article Writing & Submission, Thursday focusing on Social Networking & Branding, Friday focusing on Website Advertisements & Promotions etc
Unfortunately, nothing can be guaranteed in life, what we can do is minimize our risk in the internet marketing arena by better equipping ourselves with a well organized and thought out Master Plan Of Action.
