Hi my name is Derrick Lee ( aka Derekis ) and I am the Blog-master for this site. And just in case you don’t know me personally, which probably would be the case.

Here’s What You Have Missed Out For The Last 30+ Years Of My Existence ……..

I reside in the small but buzzing island called Singapore. And if you happen to have a world map, it’s the small “Dot” below the Peninsula Of Malaysia.

Now, ever since I can remember, I have been “In Business” all my life.

My family runs a local advertising & signage company that spans over 55 years.

I grew up in an entrepreneurial type family where everyone with the same surname works for the “Family”.

No…, we are not in the mafia or anything. We are just a plain old traditional business entity where all the key business figures are family members.

Nobody escapes the call of duty, even my pet dog at that time had to double up as the “Security Officer” during the wee hours of the night. See how haggard he has become after 20 years in service.

Every school holidays I recalled were spend assisting in the day to day operations of the family business. Learning to do things from the “Bottom up”, definitely not the kind you see on TV where you get a fancy room with a wonderful view and heaps of people to boss around.

At that time, I always wondered why I had to go through all the hassles of being the “Slave” when we do have over 50 employees working for us.

I only fully understood my dad’s intentions when I started my own business.

If my memory serves me right, my dad’s exact words were something like “ If you want to run a successful business, you must first know how to do everything yourself before you delegate, so that nobody can pull a fast one on you ”.

To me, those are truly words of wisdom that I still apply today, especially in both my current offline and online businesses.

Your Environment Dictates What You Become In The Future……….

There is an ancient Chinese proverb that states that “Your life at 3 years of age dictates your existence at 80? or something along those lines.

I reckon after going through a childhood in this type of entrepreneur environment, it kind of propelled me to chose the path to financial independence as a self-employed business owner rather than work for someone else my entire life.

During my university days, I was “Instructed” to pursue a degree in Economics or Business Studies by my parents, or should i say by my CEO who sponsored my education scholarship.

But the truth of the matter is that my heart lies ultimately in computing as i am a computer “Geek” by nature.

And after much debate, we both comprimised and i ended up pursuing a double degree in “Information Technology” as well as “Business Studies” with the ultimate aim using technology coupled with good business acuemen to help expand my existing family business.

If You Want To Make It Big, Don’t Follow The Trend, Become The Trend ……..

After many years in business, I gradually noticed that my family business is expanding at a slower than expected rate due to industrial saturation and geographical limitations. That is when I decided to take my offline business and launch it onto the internet.

During the early days, the World Wide Web was just coming of age. Emails were gradually catching up in popularity as one of the favorite means of communications.

And having a web presence is no longer a privilege but a necessity in you truly want to stay competitive in this dog eat dog world.

And with a burning desire not to miss out on the massive window of opportunities the internet can bring, I began to launch an extension of my family business online by the creation of my first company website.

However, due to the nature of my brick and mortar business model, I noticed that the availability of an online presence only serves as a contact mechanism instead of an expansion tool.

This prompted me to begin exploring other aspects of doing business using the internet.

During the course of my research, I found that the internet is growing at an exponential rate, much faster than any aspiring offline business could ever compete with.

Coupled with the fact that the certain goods can be easily sold online and will not be limited by geographical limitation and saturation are a major factors that changed my thinking as well as my business model concept.

Create A New Chapter In Your Life Through The Greatest Window Of Opportunity….

With the internet business model, there are so many ways people can make a living online, be it selling stuff on E-Bay, Internet Marketing or even Trading Shares, Stocks & Futures Online, my personal favourtie.

With the internet, all these online opportunites have indeed created hope and endless opportunities for those who wish to make a living working in their pyjamas from the comfort of their homes.

I still recall the first cheque i recieved from my online marketing experience was a US cheque of $14.97. And boy was i delighted.

Unfortunately, my local bank informed me that i had to pay S$30 processing fee just for clearing the US cheque.

How ironic can that get…. I still have that very first cheque framed up in my study room as a token of my initial efforts.

With continual learning and the dreaded 4 letter word called “WORK”, my online marketing efforts are gradually paying off allowing me to build a increasing income from the internet.

I really hope by sharing my experiences over the years, i can help spread the word to those who wants to get out of the “9 to 5″ rat race and start living a life they truly enjoy via what i deemed as the 8th Wonder Of The World.
